Details

Despite the imperfect conditions, the first part of the year was fresh and resulted in a beautiful, sunny, and dry summer with temperatures remaining close to normal. However, the severe drought slowed down the maturation process and caused the grapes to present various stages of achievement. Despite these challenges, the bunches remained healthy, and the grapes were sound thanks to careful sorting and moderate vineyard protection, including a significant portion of organic management. The Merlots have a beautiful, pure, and clean fruit, judged to be better than in 2011, while the Cabernets are fine with nice fruit and elegant tannins, albeit less powerful than in some previous vintages. The 2012 vintage of Château Beychevelle is elegant and fruity, with silky tannins, resulting in an attractive wine comparable to good vintages like 2008 and 2011.

Robert Parker - 92+ Points

"The grand vin, the 2012 Beychevelle, is one of the stars of St.-Julien. Opaque purple, with beautiful crème de cassis notes, the wine has floral underpinnings, sweet tannin and a nice layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel. This is elegant and powerful, rich and intense, but light on its feet. This is a great Beychevelle and certainly seems to exceed the vintage’s character and expectations. Give it 4-6 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 25-30 years."
