In the 2017 vintage, Domaine Castagnier's Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru unveils a primal yet enticing bouquet, dominated by the essence of ripe black cherries and crushed strawberries. With aeration, these aromas evolve into a more confit-like profile, adding depth and complexity to the nose. On the palate, this wine showcases a medium-bodied structure, offering sappy red berry fruit flavors that exude finesse and balance. There is a delightful interplay of depth and poise, with crisp acidity lending a refreshing quality to the wine. As the tasting journey unfolds, a pleasant brittle texture emerges towards the finish, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and refinement.
Antonio Galloni - 91 Points
"The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers much darker fruit than Rousseau's Charmes-Chambertin and feels more modern in style, though the accentuated new oak feels in sync with the fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tough tannins. There is quite a bit of extraction here, so there is plenty of substance, though the grippy finish misses the elegance of the best in this flight. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting."
