Francois Lamarche's 2016 La Grande Rue presents itself with a deep, brilliant ruby color that hints at its depth and complexity. On the nose, it offers an enticing bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, such as cherries, blackberries, and raspberries, intertwined with delicate floral notes and subtle hints of spice and earthiness. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with velvety tannins that provide structure and support to the fruit flavors. Layers of flavors unfold on the palate, revealing nuances of dark chocolate, tobacco, and forest floor, all leading to a long, lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression. Overall, this wine showcases the elegance, finesse, and power characteristic of the La Grande Rue vineyard, making it a true masterpiece of Burgundy.

"The 2016 La Grande Rue Grand Cru was not affected by the frost, thankfully. This is (again) attested by the aromatics that convey a sense of joie de vivre and energy. Does that come from the relief of being spared? It offers wonderful red cherries, blood orange and yuzu scents combing with minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, impressive depth and grip in the mouth. Maybe this year it does not quite convey the same aristocratic personality as the Grands Echézeaux but there is real muscle and depth on the finish. Give this four or five years in barrel at least."
