Details
Le Carillon d'Angélus 2019, composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, offers an elegant and mineral-driven expression of the vintage. Aged in 60% new French oak, this wine showcases a medium to deep garnet-purple color. Aromatically, it bursts with floral notes of lavender and red roses, accompanied by baking spices and rich fruit tones of redcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, and black raspberries, accented by cracked black pepper. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with layers of black fruit, fine-grained tannins, and refreshing energy, finishing with vibrancy and aromatic persistence. The bouquet reveals a warmth that contrasts with the controlled, smooth texture on the palate, and further bottle aging will bring out even more complexity.
Robert Parker - (91-93) Points
"Composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus is aging in French oak barrels, 60% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it springs from the glass with floral notes of lavender and red roses with a baking spice undercurrent and a core of redcurrant jelly, blackberry pie, black raspberries and cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant and refreshing with loads of mineral-laced black fruit layers and a firm, fine-grained frame, finishing with great energy and bags of perfume."
Antonio Galloni - 90+ Points
"The 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus has another high-toned and quite alcoholic bouquet - you can feel the warmth from the glass and it blurs the edges. The palate is more controlled with fleshy black fruit. The oak is well-integrated. Smooth in texture, the acidity is nicely judged, though the finish just lacks a bit of flair at the moment. Bottle age will benefit this wine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. "
