Details

The 2016 Meursault Charmes by Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey embodies the essence of meticulous vineyard practices and precise winemaking. The vineyard work, characterized by the careful cultivation of soils and a commitment to sustainability, lays the foundation for this exceptional wine. Delicate golden hues grace the glass, offering a visual prelude to the sensory journey ahead. The nose is a tapestry of aromas, with nuances of white flowers, citrus zest, and a subtle minerality that reflects the unique terroir. The palate is a masterclass in winemaking, with whole bunch pressing ensuring optimal juice quality. Fermented in 350-liter barrels, 30% new oak, the wine achieves a harmonious balance of structure and complexity. Aged for 15 to 20 months without batonnage, the result is a wine that unfolds with layers of flavor—ripe orchard fruits, hints of hazelnut, and a touch of toasty oak. The finish is persistent and pure, a testament to the meticulous care in both vineyard and cellar. The commitment to natural processes, from unfilitered bottling to the use of natural cork and wax-sealed bottles, underscores the dedication to preserving the integrity of this Meursault Charmes for years to come.

Robert Parker - (90-92) Points

"Pierre-Yves Colin purchases the grapes that produced his 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, but he farms the parcel himself. And it's a success in this challenging vintage, exhibiting dramatic aromas of peach and preserved citrus, framed by nutty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chewy and concentrated, with good depth and substance. It's not as elegant as the Genevrières, but it's similarly promising."

Antonio Galloni - (90-93) Points

"(Colin has just a single one-year-old 500-liter barrel of this juice): Ripe but very reticent nose hints at green apple. Tactile, peppery, dry and classic, conveying a dusty impression of extract. Tight, primary flavors of peach and white peach show a savory, sappy quality. Here's a young 2016 that might be compared to a 2010. This still needs further élevage to stretch out, and lose some of its CO2."
