Details

Promontory 2011 is a wine of deep red color, exuding a brooding and captivating presence. Its aromatics are the most expressive yet seen from Promontory, with a wide range of captivating notes. The nose unveils enticing scents of coffee, black truffle, wet stones, and the earthy fragrance after a refreshing rainfall. On the palate, the wine delivers a classically juicy entry, with vibrant acidity dancing at the front of the mouth. It showcases impressive density while maintaining clarity and intention throughout the mid-palate. The tannins are of exceptional quality, displaying a finesse not previously encountered in prior vintages. Although the 2011 vintage is undeniably youthful, it can offer immense pleasure with gentle decanting, surpassing the enjoyment of any previous vintage. While approachable now, its enigmatic character promises to unfold and reveal new facets over the decades to come. Promontory 2011 is a wine that balances immediate pleasure with the potential for profound aging and discovery.

Robert Parker - 94+ Points

"The 2011 Promontory exhibits a dense purple color, more density and richness than I predicted from barrel, a big, sweet nose of licorice, scorched earth, espresso bean, camphor and sweet blackcurrants and blackberries. A Graves-like volcanic character is also present. Rich, full-bodied and in need of 3-4 years of cellaring (unusual for a 2011), it should drink well for two decades or more."

Antonio Galloni - 96 Points

"The 2011 Promontory is just starting to enter its first plateau of maturity. Dark, dense and layered, the 2011 is striking. Dark cherry, gravel, scorched earth, tobacco, spice and licorice build with some coaxing. The late harvest gave the 2011 an exotic flair that is impossible to miss."
