Tesseron Estate Pym-Rae 2017 is a wine that triumphs over the challenges of the vintage, showcasing its resilience and the unique terroir of the vineyard. Despite a delayed start due to a wet and cold winter, the growing season eventually embraced the quintessential California story of sun, heat, and blue skies. Even with a few scorching days in early September, the grapes thrived and maintained their health and balance, thanks to the advantageous altitude of the vineyard, which enjoys a cooler climate. The end of the season was marked by regional fires, impacting only the Cabernet Franc, which was consequently excluded from the final blend. Throughout this journey of extreme conditions, from a wet winter to a sweltering summer, Tesseron Estate Pym-Rae 2017 emerged as an intense and powerful wine. It showcases a beautiful freshness that is a distinctive characteristic of the terroir, ultimately delivering a balanced and remarkable expression of the vintage.

Robert Parker - 97 Points

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Pym-Rae leaps from the glass with bold notions of black cherries, mulberries, plum preserves and dark chocolate with an opulent undercurrent of Indian spices, potpourri, sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with rich, seductive black fruit preserves and an explosion of exotic spice sparks, framed by firm yet beautifully plush tannins and fantastic tension, finishing very long and achingly fragrant. Possessing loads more weight and mid-palate density than a lot of 2017s, this second showing is an absolute knock-out. Due to strict selection, only around 1500 cases were made this year."
